The Mitaka Forest Ghibli Museum, officially known as the Mitaka City Ghibli Museum, houses many beloved animated works from the master animator. It features numerous film scenes, character models, and various miniature sets, as well as a wealth of creative backstories and hidden details... and so on. A few years ago, my spouse and I visited on our own and fell in love with this charming little museum. Now that our children are a bit older and both sisters have always loved Hayao Miyazaki's animations, we were delighted to include this destination as the first major stop on our Tokyo trip.

Due to the museum’s daily visitor limit, it’s essential to purchase tickets in advance. You can buy them at LAWSON convenience stores in Japan or pre-order them in Taiwan. In Taiwan, tickets are handled by Southeast Travel Service. It’s very important to confirm your desired entry date in advance—getting the wrong date means you won’t be able to enter. Upon arrival at Ghibli, use the pre-purchased tickets from Taiwan to exchange for an entry film reel at the entrance. The reels we got for our family of four were all different, which was quite unique.
