The New "Mo" Power of Woodcarving Aesthetics: The 2010 Sanyi International Woodcarving Art Festival

The annual art extravaganza in Sanyi, the "2010 Sanyi International Woodcarving Art Festival," has arrived as eagerly anticipated, running from August 7 to August 29. It showcases woodcarvings of international caliber, complemented by cultural, musical, entertaining, and interactive activities that offer the public a unique experience of woodcarving aesthetics.

This year’s international woodcarving art festival features a "Summer Crystal Ice Sculpture Show," an engaging "Creative DIY Painting" session, a "Life Aesthetics Product Exhibition," and the "Roaming Daruma Bus" that takes you on a journey to discover woodcarving art throughout Sanyi. Live woodcarving performances are also available for the public to admire the masters’ exceptional skills.

In addition to woodcarvings, the weekend outdoor concert lineup is not to be missed, featuring international tenor Matthew Lien and super-idol singers from the "One Million Star" show delivering spectacular performances. The "Street Parade Carnival" on August 15 is the highlight of the woodcarving art festival, kicking off with lively Daruma-themed floats, followed by a creative street parade of twenty teams from seven local communities, schools, and businesses in Sanyi, showcasing the town’s traditional yet innovative vitality.
This year’s international woodcarving competition brings together woodcarving artists from 11 regions, including Spain, Italy, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, the UK, Israel, Portugal, and Taiwan. A total of 58 works are competing for awards, with the winners to be announced at the opening ceremony of the Sanyi International Woodcarving Art Festival on August 15. The public can also appreciate the charm of the shortlisted pieces. By completing activity stamp collections during the weekend, visitors can exchange for limited-edition souvenirs — the "Civil and Martial Daruma Figurines" — and learn about the diverse culture of woodcarving.
