Say goodbye to traffic chaos on foot and wheels！Taiwan’s first elevated scenic walkway debuts at Qingjing Farm in February

Located in Ren’ai Township, Nantou County, Qingjing Farm is a beloved holiday destination for many, renowned alongside Wuling Farm and Fushoushan Farm in Lishan as one of Taiwan’s three premier high-mountain farms. However, narrow roads and bumpy mountain paths often lead to hazardous scenes of pedestrians and vehicles competing for space—especially during weekends and holidays. To address this, the new barrier-free scenic walkway now under construction is set to open in February 2017 (106 in Taiwan’s calendar).

This walkway is Taiwan’s first high-mountain, barrier-free elevated scenic path. Funded by a NT$43.5 million grant from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, supplemented by the Nantou County Government’s own budget, the project was contracted for construction. Stretching 1.2 km in length and 2.5 meters in width, it connects Shoushan Garden in Qingjing directly to the southern entrance of Qingqing Grassland. Along the route, six large and small observation platforms have been installed. Beyond easing pedestrian-vehicle conflicts, it offers an ideal spot to take in the breathtaking views.

To align with the mountainous terrain and enhance safety, the elevated walkway adopts a low-impact design. Every 15-meter pier is anchored at least 5 meters deep into the ground. Blending with the natural surroundings, the walkway is painted primarily in dark green and white. The route features six large and small observation-rest platforms, providing sweeping vistas of the Central Mountain Range, including peaks in the Hehuan, Nengkao, and Qilai mountain systems.

Qingjing Farm stated,The opening date, usage guidelines, and whether there will be an admission fee for the scenic walkway are all to be determined by Nantou County Government. The county government noted that over 80% of the elevated section’s construction is complete, with completion expected in February. This means visitors attending Qingjing Farm’s annual “Sheep Festival” will enjoy safer pathways.However, construction progress remains subject to weather conditions.
