Travel search engines release their New Year’s most-searched destinations — Tokyo and Osaka in Japan take the top two spots

With less than a month left until the six-day Lunar New Year holiday, do you have your overseas travel plans sorted?Travel search engine KAYAK has compiled a list of the top ten most-searched cities for travel among Taiwanese people during the Spring Festival. Unsurprisingly, the top two spots are claimed by Tokyo and Osaka in Japan.

Japan has always been one of the top choices for Taiwanese when traveling abroad. Coupled with factors such as the depreciation of the yen and affordable airfares, it almost feels like a missed opportunity not to visit Japan for some shopping and sightseeing. According to platform statistics, Japanese cities alone accounted for fifty percent of all searches for overseas travel destinations before the Lunar New Year. In addition to Tokyo and Osaka taking the top two spots, Okinawa, Sapporo, and Fukuoka also ranked fourth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

According to KAYAK statistics, popular travel destinations searched by Taiwanese are all nearby Asian cities,with the top ten being Tokyo and Osaka in Japan, Seoul in South Korea, Okinawa in Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok in Thailand, Singapore, Macau, Sapporo and Fukuoka in Japan.
