Huashan Creative Park is a favorite destination for many during holidays, where you can often discover alternative creativity through cultural markets and performing arts. This year, the "2010 Huashan Arts & Lifestyle Festival" organized by the Council for Cultural Affairs runs from October 2 to October 31, with the hope that it will eventually become another platform for performing arts in Asia, similar to Tokyo’s "Tokyo Performing Arts Market" and Seoul’s "Performing Arts Markets in Seoul."

The event is built around the concept of a "theatre black box" within a park setting, transforming Huashan into a venue for performances, divided into four sections: performances, exhibitions, forums, and creative markets. It allows audiences to get to know the diverse and rich range of local performing groups. Through forum dialogues, performing artists are encouraged to reflect on and address current issues. The creative market showcases different aspects of performing arts in everyday life, and finally, through the events, the groups get a chance to present themselves and share their voices, while audiences can gain a deeper understanding of the art form from various perspectives.

“In the past, Huashan brewed wine; today, it brews creativity.” To increase the visibility of the country’s emerging artists, four avant-garde theatrical performances are scheduled on the second floor of the auditorium, giving fresh life to works rich in unique imagery, layered meaning, and deep emotion. The first show is "Diving," staged by "Mobius Ring Creation Collective," inspired by the emotional impact of watching "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." Conceived from a female perspective, it weaves seven stories depicting seven distinctly different women, revealing the universal loneliness and solitude in life. The chameleon-like actress Liang Feiyi takes on all seven roles in a performance you won’t want to miss.

"Play Idea Workshop" presents an experimental Peking opera work adapted from Jean Genet's French play "The Maids." Combining Peking opera music, modern dance, and acrobatics, it merges Western modern theatre forms with Eastern culture to showcase a French flair. The full production depicts three women from different social classes vying for power, highlighting opposition and conflict. The absurd plot uses symbolism and exaggerated acting techniques to subvert the traditional forms and frameworks of "Chinese opera."

Theatre Box Troupe presents the solo performance "Island Monologue ~ A One-Person Light Opera," using large-scale production to realize the ideal of a one-person light operetta. The stage visuals aim to recreate the imagery of an island and satisfy urbanites' longing for the sea. In addition to extensive monologues, the piece also incorporates elements of light opera music, creating a complete theatrical world through a highly experienced production team. Veteran actress Xie Qiongqiu plays four vastly different characters, taking on the challenge of performing across ages from 6 to 70.

The final show is "Fish," performed by "Flying People Collective," which explores whether life truly offers choices through a love story, presenting a heavy topic with humorous and playful techniques. Blending modern drama, puppetry, shadow play, and musical theatre, it seeks a unified narrative essence and symbolic meaning among these distinct performance styles, expressing sincere and touching inner emotions, allowing audiences to enjoy a multi-layered theatrical creativity. The avant-garde small theatre performances begin on October 8, with shows every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Four groups take turns performing, with tickets priced at NT$400.
