Enjoy authentic Japanese flavors in Tainan too!"Jule Carbon Grill Restaurant" is located along the canal on Section 2, Minsheng Road, West Central District, Tainan City. It's considered a local veteran eatery. After relocating to its current address, it expanded into a two-story dining space. Not only is the environment better, but many of the ingredients, tableware, utensils, chopsticks, and decorations are brought over from Japan, giving diners the illusion of being in Japan in an instant!

There’s a diverse menu selection, ranging from à la carte options to multi-person banquet dishes. They also offer lunch sets at noon, which are not only generous in portion size but also delicious and popular!Next, let’s take a look at the mouthwatering delights at "Jule Carbon Grill Restaurant"!

The shop is nestled along the scenic canal in Tainan’s West Central District, originally a small, modest Japanese-style eatery. After operating for several years, it moved to its current location and transformed into a two-story venue. The ambiance is now much improved, and many of the ingredients, tableware, utensils, chopsticks, and decorations are imported from Japan—giving the place an instant Japan-feel!

The establishment has evolved into a completely different realm, enveloping guests in an atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Japanese towns.

It’s conveniently close to the canal, so apart from enjoying delicious food, you can also take in the beautiful scenery and listen to the gentle flow of water.

Many of the dishes served here are carefully selected, with some ingredients even flown directly from Japan. Additionally, there’s a grilled section that lets us experience authentic Japanese flavors.

There are plenty of beverage choices, most of which are popular among the younger crowd. There’s also a self-service soda station available for use—great for everyone.

The drink station is also equipped with a sake dispenser, which is a nice touch. The delicate Japanese ceramic jars and cups displayed around add a charming aesthetic. There’s also a section with a variety of tools that the staff use with skill. The overall vibe is very cozy.

The counter seating area has been newly renovated and also offers a casual standing bar option. There’s also a private room available now for those who prefer a more intimate setting.

The grilling ingredients are all freshly prepared and presented simply. The pork belly and tuna are sourced from trusted Japanese suppliers. Besides the canal views, another highlight is the selection of sauces used for grilling—each is authentically Japanese. Their specialties include "smoky flavor," "sweetness," "saltiness," "umami," and "spiciness," all carefully crafted to suit different palates. The rice used is also imported from Japan, a premium short-grain variety known for its sticky texture and rich flavor, which pairs perfectly with Japanese cuisine.

The shop also displays many photos and items brought over from Japan, such as paintings, ceramic plates, and sake bottles. Those interested can purchase them as souvenirs or decorations.

The meat options here are not limited either—there are plenty of cuts imported from Japan.

Once you step inside, you’ll feel as though you’ve arrived in Japan. Whether you’re here for drinks, a light meal, or a full dinner, there’s something for everyone. (Ask the friendly staff for recommendations!)

There’s also a wide selection of side dishes.

The interior gives off strong Japanese izakaya vibes.<饭、生鱼片套餐、个人火锅等,应有尽有,也都超受欢迎的啦!

There’s also a grill section where you can cook your own food if you wish. It’s not mandatory, but if you’re up for it, go ahead!

There’s also a sushi corner where you can order fresh sushi. One plate is around 100 NT, and you can choose to order one or more depending on your appetite.

The restaurant also provides free side dishes to whet your appetite, along with little containers for discarding edamame shells—how thoughtful!

As soon as you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the aroma of grilled food. Let’s take a closer look at the first dish:the charcoal-grilled chicken thigh<饭定食(280元), besides<饭之外,一旁还附有天妇罗、茶碗蒸、特制小菜、煮物、味噌汤等,分量还不少!

The restaurant offers a good selection of skewered items. The chicken thigh is tender and juicy, and the shrimp is plump and sweet. Each item is thoughtfully prepared. The skewers are grilled just right, leaving a nice char while staying juicy. There’s also a vegetarian section with a good variety of options.

The shrimp skewer is beautifully presented, with the shrimp curled up nicely after grilling. The seasoning is just right—not too salty or too bland. It has a satisfying umami taste. Compared to similar dishes in other places, this one stands out.

The chicken thigh is grilled using Japanese binchotan charcoal, which burns cleanly and imparts a subtle smokiness. The surface is slightly charred, while the inside remains tender and juicy.

The chicken thigh is brushed with a special sauce during grilling, giving it a glossy finish. The accompanying scallions and leeks add fragrance. There’s also a section with other grilled vegetables, pickles, and tofu—all adding variety to your meal.

Also try the grilled Japanese mountain yam (180 NT / limited quantity), which comes with a small Japanese spatula used for eating okonomiyaki—how adorable!

% The miso marinade used here is Japanese-style, but with a twist—they’ve added local Taiwanese ingredients to give it a more robust umami flavor. The pork doesn’t have that usual greasy taste, and when paired with rice, it becomes the highlight of the meal. You’ll definitely want to order a second helping without hesitation.

% Skewer Yakitori Platter (220 TWD / 5 skewers), Their skewer yakitori is also a delightful surprise—each time you get different ingredients, which makes you even more excited to taste the deliciousness inside every skewer!

% The chicken used here includes thigh, breast, cartilage, and skin, all grilled to perfection and paired with a sweet and savory sauce that complements the smoky charred flavor beautifully. It’s incredibly satisfying.

% When you come here, you must try their rice bowls. We were very satisfied—the presentation is colorful and vibrant (as shown in the photos), and it even comes with a small bowl of soup. Some of the rice bowls don’t come with soup, but the chicken is tender and flavorful.

% Fruit Juice Blend (100 TWD), This drink is made fresh with seasonal fruits—on the day we visited, it was a mix of dragon fruit, guava, and other fruits. It was rich, smooth, not overly sweet, and very refreshing and delicious!

% Another great option is the Pork Belly Hot Pot Set (Kelp / 380 TWD), Served with Shigaraki-yaki pottery and special utensils, it really feels like you’re dining in Japan!

% We chose the pork belly hot pot, and you can clearly see the pork belly slices, green onions, mushrooms, tofu, and konjac—all arranged nicely and looking quite premium.

% The broth is light and not too oily, making it very healthy. The side vegetables are also fresh, and the portion is generous.

% The konjac is especially chewy and flavorful, and the pork belly is melt-in-your-mouth tender.

% First, they blanch the vegetables in Japanese-style dashi broth, which makes them taste even fresher and more delicious.

% The pork belly is sliced thin and cooks quickly, so you don’t have to wait too long.

% After cooking the noodles briefly in the broth, they become flavorful, and you won’t find them too greasy. There are also some bamboo shoots added, which give a nice texture. The dish is hearty and has lots of variety.

% Sashimi Platter on a Small Boat (680 TWD), It includes salmon, squid, tuna, yellowtail, squid, salmon roe, sweet shrimp, and scallops. Seafood lovers, don’t miss this!

% We ordered it along with the rice bowl, and it was like having a full Japanese meal—just like in an izakaya. It wasn’t too expensive either. The quality of the seafood was very high. The salmon was rich and fatty, the sweet shrimp had a great texture, and the scallops were fresh and sweet.

% The tuna belly was especially amazing—very soft and tender with rich, smooth fat. The thick slices were incredibly satisfying. There was also yellowtail with sea urchin—the outside was firm while the inside was soft, and the sweetness of the sea urchin paired perfectly with the tender fish. Seafood lovers can also enjoy the salmon roe—it’s salty, fragrant, and not fishy at all. It’s great whether you eat it with sashimi or on its own.

% Teppanyaki Egg Noodles (180 TWD), This dish is very similar to Japanese yakisoba, but with a thin layer of egg wrapped around it, adding even more aroma.

% It looks just like a rolled omelet, and the noodles used are also the same as in yakisoba. When you cut the egg noodle roll in half, you can see it’s packed with ingredients and stir-fried noodles—it looks super appetizing.

% It tastes like a Japanese-style stir-fry, and the portion is very satisfying. The flavors are rich, and it really gives off that authentic Japanese vibe.

% Assorted Yakitori Skewer Platter (220 TWD / 5 skewers), It includes five types: beef, German sausage, pork and scallion rolls, chicken wings, and bacon tomato rolls. If you can’t decide what to order, go for the mixed platter—it’s a safe bet. The grilling skills of the chef are also great; everything is cooked just right, with a nice smoky flavor and juicy, tender meat. Each skewer is delicious.

% You can also add sauces, and they won’t overpower the flavors.

% First, they grill the vegetables, which stay crispy and don’t get soggy.

% Braised Burdock Root (180 TWD), This is a rather unique and creative dish—great on its own or as a drink pairing.

%技strong>Matcha Fresh Milk Pudding (with tapioca pearls / NT$60),This dish first caught our eye with its beautiful serving ware, and then completely won us over with its taste when we tried it. It was incredibly smooth and silky, with a rich milky aroma complemented by the subtle fragrance of matcha, the crispiness of roasted rice, and the chewy texture of the tapioca pearls. The sweetness level was just right, and the combination of flavors was delightful and perfectly balanced.

%技strong>Hot Uji Matcha vs. Japanese Black Sesame (NT$120), the black sesame had a deep, intense flavor, while the Uji matcha offered a refreshing and fragrant taste. Paired together, they created a harmonious contrast that was both satisfying and unique. It was truly a perfect combination.

The dining space at “Jule Charcoal Grill Restaurant” is spacious and comfortable, filled with a strong Japanese atmosphere. The private room area on the second floor even allows you to enjoy your meal while taking in the beautiful views of the canal — it’s simply delightful. The menu offers a wide variety of choices, with some ingredients imported directly from Japan, as well as many dishes that are adapted versions of authentic Japanese cuisine, allowing us to enjoy delicious Japanese food right here in Taiwan — how wonderful is that? In addition, the lunch sets and desserts are also of a high standard, so dessert lovers definitely shouldn’t miss out. Whether you’re here for a casual meal or a more refined dining experience, this place suits all occasions.
