Experience the Indigenous culture of Taiwan’s East Coast now！ The 2010 East Coast Indigenous Cultural Festival is scheduled to be held grandly across Taitung from November 19 to 28 this year (Year 99 in the Republic of China calendar), featuring a variety of dynamic and static activities including tribal experience tours, the Lu Sen-bao Forum, and the “AM till Dawn” concert at the Beinan Cultural Park. Taitung County Magistrate Huang Jian-ting invites both domestic and international visitors to Taitung to experience the beauty of Austronesian culture.

The opening ceremony of the 2010 East Coast Indigenous Cultural Festival series of events will take place at 4:30 PM on November 19 at Taitung Forest Park, comprising three main parts: performing arts, visual arts, and tribal experiences. Details include: 1) Inviting domestic and international woodcarving artists for a collaborative creation (during the event period, forums and lectures on creative concepts and practical sharing will also be held) 2) Tribal experience travel package tours 3) Performances by domestic and international artists and groups (at Taitung Sugar Factory – International Austronesian Night, Tiehua Village – Women’s Song Night, Folk Song Night, Band Night, and Beinan Cultural Park – AM till Dawn Concert) 4) Exhibition and sales of indigenous cultural and creative products and local delicacies. Additionally, supporting events include: 1) The “It’s Been Ages Since I’ve Hugged You” concert returning home for a special performance 2) The Austronesian Forum (Lu Sen-bao Forum and commemorative concert) 3) The Lu Feng Township Lo-Shen Festival 4) The Indigenous Care Cup Baseball Parade, autograph sessions, and Players’ Night

The Indigenous Peoples Administration of Taitung County Government stated that looking back over the more than ten years of the East Coast Indigenous Cultural Festival, commentators have reflected on the substantive meaning of the festival from various perspectives—be it the content of the events, the foreign groups invited, the essence of the Austronesian Cultural Festival, or the level of participation by Indigenous peoples, Indigenous tribes, and residents of Taitung County. In the future, the planning and management of the Austronesian Cultural Festival should focus primarily on broadening the international perspective of the county’s residents.
