Board a TRA cruise-style train to welcome the first light of the new century

Want to greet the first happy ray of light in the new century? The Taiwan Railways Administration recently announced the launch of the "Leap 99, Happy 100" cruise-style train. Different from 2010, 2011 brings another innovation with three special New Year’s Eve cross-the-year sunrise trains, each with its own distinct features. These include a route departing from Fengyuan through Kaohsiung to Taimali, one starting from northern Taiwan to Sancian Coast to catch the sunrise, and another leaving the north in the evening to attend New Year celebrations in Hualien before heading to Fulong for the sunrise.

This New Year’s Eve, why not choose a 【cruise train】 to head to eastern Taiwan and enjoy flower seas as you greet the first light.

The cruise train itinerary is planned as follows: (Ticket booking expected to open on December 22, 2009)

1. Colorful Cruise Train No. 7671 between Shulin and Yuli: On the night of December 31, the train departs from Shulin. TRA personnel from the 2nd Army Command will host an energetic New Year celebration onboard. Upon arrival at Yuli Station, passengers will be transferred by bus to Sancian Coast in Taitung to join the “Starry East Coast, Sunrise at Sancian, New Year’s Sunrise Welcome” event hosted by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration. Then continue on to Chenggong to admire beautiful flower seas.

2. Colorful Cruise Train No. 7631 between Fengyuan and Taitung: On the night of December 31, the train departs from central Taiwan and travels via Kaohsiung (South-Link Line) to Taimali Beach. Attend the “Step Into a Century of Sunrise” event hosted by Taitung County Government, then continue on to Chishang to enjoy the floral beauty of eastern Taiwan and explore small stations along the South-Link Line.

3. Colorful Cruise Train No. 8885 between Shulin and Hualien: On the evening of December 31, the train departs from Shulin and heads to Hualien City to participate in the New Year’s Eve party. Around 2 a.m., depart from Hualien Station to Fulong to take part in the “Sunrise Music Concert” hosted by the Northeast Coast & Yilan National Scenic Area Administration.
