Visiting Wulai for a hot spring soak is a great choice, especially now that the weather is turning cold. For the first time ever, the Wulai Township Office is holding a large-scale event for two consecutive days — the “Wulai Onsen, Gourmet & Low-Carbon Travel Festival.” The aim is to draw more people to “play and soak” in Wulai over the weekend, while also giving them the chance to deeply experience Wulai’s beautiful scenery and indigenous culture, all of which helps boost the hot spring business. The “Wulai Onsen, Gourmet & Low-Carbon Travel Festival” will take place on December 18 (Saturday) and December 19 (Sunday). This period coincides with the “New Taipei City Hot Spring Festival,” where hot spring businesses such as “PUSH Luxury Resort” and “La Cité” are offering discounts of up to 50% on hot spring entry. Hot spring lovers definitely shouldn’t miss out.

Aside from hot spring discounts, the Wulai Township Office is also hosting four major events: a “Hiking Activity,” a “Bicycle Race,” an “Indigenous Concert,” and a “Cooking Competition.” All are free to join and come with prizes. For example, the first prize in the cooking competition comes with a NT$10,000 cash award. Participants in the “Hiking Activity” and “Bicycle Race” will also receive a “Forest Life Fun” bicycle headband and a trial voucher from World Gym. There are three hiking routes in total. The first is the “Zhongzhi Jiujiou Trail,” a path built along the Nanshi River, stretching from Chenggong to the Jiujiou Scenic Bridge toll station, and is full of various types of ferns and rich terrain features. The second is the “Wild Sakura Trail,” where you’ll pass plants familiar to the Atayal people, offering rich ecological diversity. The third is the “Xinxian Cultural & Ecological Trail,” once an important pathway for Wulai residents. Surrounded by year-round mist, it boasts a highly diverse natural environment and abundant cultural elements.

Additionally, the event includes musical performances. Performing groups include the “Mu Huai Shu Music and Dance Art Troupe,” “Laviis Band,” and “Guts Band.” Among them, the “Mu Huai Shu Music and Dance Art Troupe” has been interviewed by the globally renowned channel DISCOVERY and often travels to countries such as China and South Africa to represent Taiwan by showcasing indigenous dance culture. The “Laviis Band” is the first-place winner of the 2010 Indigenous Band Competition, formed by a group of indigenous youths who love music and aim to preserve indigenous cultural heritage through their tunes. Surrounding the concerts, there will also be a fair with stalls selling indigenous specialty products, such as millet cakes, wild vegetables, and handmade textiles.
