The NT$60 million 101 fireworks light up Taipei in stunning fashion

This year’s 101 fireworks will set five major records: 1. Longest duration and most fireworks ever — previous shows lasted just 188 seconds, but this year will go for 288 seconds, featuring 14 separate fireworks programs. Last year only 16,000 fireworks were launched, but this year it will soar to 30,000. 2. A fireworks investment of NT$60 million, with NT$30 million funded by the 101 building itself and NT$30 million from corporate sponsors. 3. Full 360-degree scaffolding fireworks display, involving high-difficulty installation of countless vertical steel cables along the building’s exterior, and the setup of 1,800 launchers. 4. Designed by pyrotechnics master Cai Guo-Qiang, and executed by the internationally renowned Grucci family, a New York-based fireworks dynasty with 150 years of experience. 5. Innovative fireworks programming — fireworks will be launched up to the height of 508 meters into the clouds, and will include visual concepts such as “Silver Waterfall in Layers” and “Soaring Dragon in Spiral.”
