Minister of Transportation Mao Chi-kuo mentioned that the number of countries and regions offering visa-free entry to Taiwan continues to increase, moving toward the goal of 100 visa-waiver countries by the centennial of the Republic of China. Visitor arrivals to Taiwan first surpassed one million in 1976 (the 65th year of the ROC), then hit two million after 13 years in 1989 (the 78th year), broke three million after another 16 years in 2005 (the 94th year), and crossed four million just four years later in 2009. In less than a year from last year to November 26 of this year (2010), the five-million mark was surpassed, and by the end of the year, the 5.5 million mark is expected to be reached. He believes that welcoming 10 million visitors to Taiwan in the future is no longer a dream.

Taiwan’s tourism industry is highly regarded.

The association also actively cooperates with the government in organizing various international tourism promotion events, including participating in major international travel fairs in key markets such as Northeast Asia (Japan and South Korea), Southeast Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and India), and Europe, America, New Zealand, and Australia. It hosts activities such as travel trade forums, Taiwan tourism briefings, and street performances to promote over 30 tourism programs including “Travel Taiwan – 100 Emotional Moments” and major events like the Taipei International Flora Expo. Looking ahead to next year’s centennial of the Republic of China, the association will continue to participate in international tourism promotion efforts in line with the government’s “Tourism Excellence and Leadership Program” to boost Taiwan’s tourism industry and stimulate economic prosperity.
