A new Taiwan Railways Shaba branch line will be added at the High-Speed Rail Tainan Station. In response to the launch of the Shaba branch line starting January 2, 2011, there will be 70 daily round-trip services between “High-Speed Rail Tainan Station” and “Taiwan Railways Tainan Station.” The High-Speed Rail Tainan Station express bus “Tainan Park Line” will cease its free transfer discount starting January 3; the express bus lines “Tainan City Government Line” and “Chimei Hospital Line” will continue to offer free transfers. The “Chimei Hospital Line” will add some additional stops starting January 3, with further announcements to be made after approval from the relevant transport authorities.

Tainan is renowned for its diverse and delicious cuisine, making it a top travel destination for both domestic and international tourists.

Meanwhile, Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) will continue to collaborate with bus operators this year. Through joint marketing efforts, a total of 10 express bus routes across five stations — Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, and Tainan — will operate between 1,032 to 1,051 daily trips connecting high-speed rail stations and urban areas, offering free transfer services to THSR passengers (details on express bus routes and departure frequencies for each station are provided in the table below).

Taiwan High Speed Rail reports that as of December 26, 2010, the total number of express bus services operated at THSR stations reached 403,114 trips this year, serving a cumulative total of 5.308 million passengers. On average, approximately 14,700 passengers per day utilized the free transfer service, with an average transfer rate of about 15.7%.

The “High-Speed Rail Express Buses” are operated under road rights allocated by the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and managed by various city and county bus companies. To provide passengers with more convenient transfer services, Taiwan High Speed Rail, in line with the government's policy on seamless public transport connections, has selected high-volume transit corridors. In partnership with eight bus companies — Taoyuan Bus, Zhongli Bus, Techstar Bus, Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport, Uni-President Motors, Ho-Hsin Bus, Chiayi Bus, and Xingnan Bus — THSR offers convenient free shuttle services to and from its stations through joint marketing initiatives. “Non–High-Speed Rail passengers” will be charged based on their travel origin and destination.
