Is visiting the old street the only thing to do in Sanxia? Actually, there’s a hidden spot near Sanxia Old Street called “Yuan Mountain.” The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic sight of National Freeway No. 3, Sanxia, and Yingge. Not only that, you can also take gravity-defying photos here similar to those at Yilan’s Eagle Rock or Beitou’s Battleship Rock—super thrilling.

Yuan Mountain, with an elevation of just 321 meters, is located right next to the bustling area of Sanxia. It got its name because its shape resembles the beak of a kite soaring in the sky. The Yuan Mountain hiking trail is about 5.7 kilometers long, and during the tung blossom season in March and April, the snow-white blossoms create a particularly romantic scenery.

You don’t have to walk far to reach the mountaintop for the view. Just drive to the Guangfu Memorial Bell and then walk for 5 minutes to reach the summit. Though not very high at just 321 meters, it’s one of the best spots to overlook the Greater Taipei area, with an amazing view that takes in the Dahan River, Sanxia, Yingge, and National Freeway No. 3. Moreover, there’s a large platform on the mountain made of stacked rocks, where many visitors take a “feet-dangling photo.” Sit on the rock with your legs hanging over the edge, look down at the scenery below, and capture the beautiful view in your photo!

If you want to conquer Yuan Mountain on foot, start from the trailhead and hike up. The entire Yuan Mountain trail is about 5.7 kilometers long. If you have time and want to challenge your leg strength, you can keep going and conquer the entire mountain.
