Valentine’s Day is all about sweetness—hit these 10 romantic spots on a whim!

Right after Lunar New Year comes the most anticipated Western Valentine’s Day. But flowers and a fancy dinner aren’t necessarily the best options—restaurants and hotels will be packed, and all that rich food from the holidays might just add to your waistline. This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, so why not plan a quick getaway over the preceding weekend? Find a romantic, laid-back outdoor spot, map out your own “Valentine’s route,” and show your special someone how much you care. It’s sure to warm up your relationship.

 

The Hanbi Trail was originally built for former President Chiang Kai-shek’s walks, but now it’s open to all visitors as a forest path. Stretching about 1.5 km in a loop, the trail is mostly flat with gentle stairs, making it easy for everyone to complete—a great choice for casual hikers. With thick tree cover, it’s common to spot Taiwan blue magpies and Japanese white-eyes here. Along the way, you’ll find landmarks like Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Pavilion, Plum & Lotus Garden, Jesus Chapel, rowboats, Hanbi Pier, and Recreation Pavilion. Though these sites carry historical and political significance, time has given them a nostalgic charm.

 

Maifeng is a high-altitude experimental farm operated by National Taiwan University, situated at 2,100 meters above sea level. As part of the university’s teaching and research efforts, the farm promotes eco-experience and environmental education. Even groups of two can book a visit, and the farm offers seasonal activity packages that include meals and lodging. Due to its vast grounds, visitors are not allowed to explore alone and must be accompanied by guides. Highlights along the route include scenic viewpoints, temperate flower zones, botanical ecological gardens, Poplar Trail, educational exhibition centers, and the maze area.
