Shortly after the Lunar New Year, many people unconsciously find themselves a few pounds heavier. Fitness enthusiasts often head to the gym or school playgrounds to work out, hoping to shed the extra weight quickly. However, for those without an exercise habit, this can be quite a struggle. To address this market demand, some travel operators have launched wellness-themed travel packages.

A spa resort located on Mexico’s Mayan Riviera has introduced a series of wellness programs themed around Mayan-inspired nourishing spa treatments. In addition to thoughtfully designed menus, exotic fitness classes are also arranged, aiming to help all guests start the new year in a healthy and joyful frame of mind.

The program includes a variety of offerings such as yoga, spa treatments, and steam therapies, along with expert consultations to deepen guests’ understanding of nutrition and metabolism. Moreover, the hotel’s Kinan Spa offers a range of soothing and holistic treatments. Guests can participate in guided sessions—either individually or in groups—such as Ashtanga Yoga, Yantra Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Qigong, and Tai Chi.

To honor the traditions of the ancient Mayan civilization, Kinan Spa features a “Temazcal” steam bath, similar to the Native American “sweat lodge.” The Temazcal treatment involves pouring water infused with herbs over heated volcanic rocks, producing aromatic steam with therapeutic properties that help detoxify the body.

Beyond external treatments, the hotel also addresses internal wellness needs by offering detox menus. These include chilled cucumber soup with pineapple and jicama, steamed fish or chicken fillet with axiote and hoja santa herbs, and tropical fruit salsa with tomato chili sauce, all designed to enhance the effectiveness of the wellness program.
