Taiwan's global tourism competitiveness ranking rises by 6 places

Sun Moon Lake has long been a renowned tourist destination in Taiwan, attracting large numbers of visitors each year with its natural scenery, the culture of the Thao people, and premium accommodation experiences.
The WEF publishes data and information for its Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index, sourced from questionnaires completed by CEOs and business leaders, as well as statistics released by international organizations (such as the WTO, UNESCO, and the UNWTO). The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Bureau stated that the WEF’s evaluation covers a wide range of aspects. Among them, Taiwan ranked first in telephone line penetration under the communications category. It also placed 8th in railway infrastructure, 9th in the quality of transport networks, and 12th in the timeliness of tourism information provision. Additionally, Taiwan’s tourism marketing and brand effectiveness indicators improved significantly from 76th in 2009 to 49th.
Night markets are a must-visit for tourists coming to Taiwan.
Regarding the lower ranking in the car rental companies indicator within tourism infrastructure, the Tourism Bureau explained that the WEF measures this based on the number of outlets of seven major international rental companies such as Avis, Hertz, and National. Since most car rental companies in Taiwan are locally owned and operated, this indicator scored lower. Furthermore, as Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations, it is currently unable to apply for World Heritage status, which puts it at a disadvantage in the natural and cultural heritage evaluation categories. In addition, indicators such as the area of national protected zones and species diversity are also related to the innate geographical and environmental conditions of each country.
