Travel by train—set off on the colorful Inland Line train!

"Train travel" is a favorite among leisurely travelers. There's no need to rush from one attraction to the next—you can quietly enjoy the scenery along the way and get off at places you like to explore and sample local delicacies. What a delightful experience. The Inland Line, known as a "famous autumn delicacy of Akita," serves not only as transportation for locals but also as the best way to deeply experience the rustic countryside and wander through Akita at your own pace!

The Akita Inland Line is very different from urban trains—it’s less crowded and hectic, and travels at a slower pace. Spanning just 94 kilometers, it cuts through both urban areas and rural fields of Akita, taking in some of the region’s most essential scenery and cultural highlights. These include Japan’s second-ranked waterfall, the Anmon Falls in the Daisen area; the samurai residences around Kakunodate; the majestic Lake Tazawa; the Ainokura area, known as the homeland of hunters; unique horse meat cuisine; the great taiko drum at the shrine in the terminal station, Takanosu; and hidden hot spring areas—all must-see spots. Recently, the hit Korean drama “IRIS” was filmed in Akita, sparking a surge in tourism. Why not take the Inland Line train to discover the dreamlike drama locations for yourself?

 

Additionally, what makes the Inland Line especially appealing is the beautiful seasonal scenery of Akita. In spring, the country is graced with Japan’s enchanting pale pink cherry blossoms, with weeping cherries and Somei Yoshino varieties dancing in the air—a romantic and unforgettable sight. In summer and autumn, golden rice fields and stunning red maple leaves stretch across the landscape, forming an expansive view that is truly a treasured asset for the people of Akita. Come winter, the region transforms into a silver-white world. The snow-covered Tohoku area has a unique charm all its own, and soaking in a hot spring while quietly admiring the snowy scenery is an extraordinary pleasure.
