Have you ever seen a Grey-faced Buzzard? From early March to the Qingming Festival every year, it's the season when these migratory raptors pass through Changhua. To help the public learn more about ecological conservation, the Changhua County Government is holding the ‘2011 Eagle Soaring Over Bagua Mountain – A Centennial Bond with Eagle Watching at Bagua Mountain’ event on March 19 and 20. An opening ceremony and nature concert will take place on the evening of March 18 at 7 PM, featuring a performance by Matthew Lien, inviting the public to enjoy both the eagles and the music.

This year’s eagle-watching series of events will be held over two days, March 19 and 20, at the Bagua Mountain Range Eagle Watching Nature Trail (formerly the Eagle Watching Platform). Activities include ecological interpretation, leaf printing, DIY bird paper reliefs, bird-themed fabric printing, a Grey-faced Buzzard-themed Monopoly game, and face painting. These activities allow both adults and children to admire the majestic sight of Grey-faced Buzzards soaring in the blue sky while also gaining an understanding of ecological conservation concepts.
Taiwan, with its birdsong and fragrant blooms, offers many great birdwatching spots. The photo shows one such location at the Kaiyuan Farm in Alishan.
In addition, the county government has commissioned the Changhua County Wild Bird Society to organize a “Parent-Child Field Trip” to strengthen family bonds through eagle-watching activities, while also instilling conservation values in every household. On March 19, from 8:40 AM to 4:00 PM, free shuttle buses will depart every 20–30 minutes from the Stadium and Changhua Railway Station to bring the public to the eagle-watching event. The buses will make stops at the Bagua Mountain Range Ecological Visitor Center of the Tourism Bureau’s Shan Shui National Scenic Area Administration and the entrance to the Bagua Mountain Range Eagle Watching Nature Trail. The public is encouraged to use public transportation.
