Explore Juguang for free during the Ocean Clam Festival!

The 10th annual "Juguang Ocean Clam Festival" is scheduled to be held from July 22 to August 14. Over the years, efforts have transformed the Juguang clam from a common shellfish in the intertidal zone into one of the stars of Taiwan’s summer tourism. To celebrate this decade of success, the Juguang Township Office has specially integrated the township’s natural scenery and historic sites, hosting free guided tours and experience activities every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting from July 22. Visitors can register on-site at the Juguang Harbor Service Center.

> Free activities during the Juguang Ocean Clam Festival include vehicle-based guided tours (Dongju Lighthouse, Fu Zheng, Dapu Village, Dapu Stone Carvings, Nostalgia Pavilion, and Lühe Cliff), cycling to view terns, national defense military experiences (static displays of armored vehicles, trial rides, and artillery drills), installation art workshops and parent-child sand sculpture experiences (Dongju Fu Zheng), intertidal ecology lessons, kayaking (Dongju Meng’ao), fireworks shows, sky lantern prayers, and stargazing experiences (Dongquan Lighthouse). Except for the national defense military experience and kayaking, all other activities can be registered on-site at the Juguang Harbor Service Center. Juguang Township consists of Dongju and Xiju, two islands. The township office is located on Xiju, although Dongju is slightly larger in area. Both Dongju and Xiju are surrounded by sea and feature numerous fjords and harbors, making them rich in fishing resources. Currently, there are about 200 residents on Dongju. This place was not only once an ancient battleground for subduing Japanese pirates, but also an enduring beacon at the mouth of the Min River. Aside from military fortifications, the quaint fishing villages of Fu Zheng and Dapu, as well as the centuries-old second-grade historic site Dongquan Lighthouse and third-grade historic site Dapu Stone Carvings, are all worth visiting.
