Flying Miracles Taiwan Edition～Hot Air Ballooning Without Leaving the Country

The long-running Taitung "Season of Flying" event has traditionally focused on paragliding. This year, the Taitung County Government is organizing Taiwan's first-ever hot air balloon carnival, which will take place from July 1 to August 31 at Luye Gaotai in Taitung. The event has specially invited about 20 giant hot air balloons from eight countries, along with around 35 international hot air balloon experts. In addition to watching the balloons soar, the public can enjoy a tethered hot air balloon ride (hovering in one spot) for just NT$500, lasting five to seven minutes. The event will also feature high-altitude photography, aerial weddings, stunt kites, paragliding, ultralight aircraft performances, family games, DIY experiences, and grassland concerts.

On July 1, the festival kicks off with a hot air balloon launch ceremony and a Hot Air Balloon City Summit at Luye Gaotai. On the evening of July 2 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., there will be an enchanting Hot Air Balloon Dream Light and Music Concert. From July 1 to 3, the highlight will be international hot air balloon flight performances daily from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Currently, due to regulatory restrictions, the public can only experience tethered hot air balloon rides. These rides are available every day from July 1 to 10, and from July 11 to August 31 on Wednesdays through Sundays. Except for the opening day, all tethered rides require prior reservation. Additionally, after July, Taitung County will host 141 Indigenous harvest festivals across various tribal communities, whitewater rafting on the Beinan River in Luye Township, cycling tours in Guanshan, bamboo rafting season in Chihshang, the Makapahay Harvest Festival, the Taimali Daylily Festival, and Taitung’s most grand music event—the East Coast Music Festival, to be held from August 19 to 21.
