This is a must-try in Taipei—Furo’s rich cheesecake with an incredibly harmonious and dreamy texture

Apart from Sanhuai Tang that I visited last time, Furo is also one of the most recommended cheesecakes in Taipei. On this particular noon, the weather wasn’t great, so I took shelter rather clumsily at the just-opened Furo and became their first customer. I chose a window seat with great lighting. The owner warned me that if it gets crowded in the afternoon, I might have to move, but no worries—I’d be out of there after finishing the cake.

When they had just opened, only the basic New York-style cheesecake was available in the chiller, which was exactly what I wanted. Paired with a drink, the cake could be purchased at the takeaway price (NT$95).

Would having a slice of cheesecake before lunch be too heavy? I genuinely didn’t find Furo’s cake that way—in fact, after the first bite, I found myself wanting a second and then a third.

When cut with a fork, the texture felt dense yet not overly so. Upon the first bite, there was a perfectly balanced sweetness, acidity, and richness, then it melted softly in the mouth without leaving any greasy aftertaste. The slightly thinner digestive biscuit base complemented the cake body very well.

The Ceylon black tea with a tea bag wasn’t strong or fragrant enough. While the focus is on the cake, a better beverage pairing would have enhanced the experience even more.

For me, it’s quite rare to still feel like having a second slice after finishing one. It’s better to leave a bit of longing instead.
