SASA has been operating at a loss in Taiwan for six consecutive years. It entered the Taiwanese market in 1997 and had a total of 21 stores in Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. In particular, the store near the intersection of Zhongxiao East Road and Da’an Road in Taipei is a popular spot frequented by shoppers. Meanwhile, its largest store in Asia is located in Jordan’s Nathan Square.
SASA holds a notable position among Asian beauty retail brands.
In addition to its origins in Hong Kong and Macau, SASA International also has locations in China, Singapore, and Malaysia. The group stated that the absence of a Taiwanese business location will not impact its overall financial performance, as Taiwan only accounted for about 2.5% of its total sales.
In recent years, a large number of beauty brands have exited the Taiwanese market. This is due, on one hand, to issues with market size, and on the other hand, to the diversification of e-commerce and various ways to access beauty products, which have impacted and divided the original market. Consumers also have more choices, comparing similar retailers such as Watsons, Poya, and Cosmed, leading to intense competition.
