The “Love Tainan” photography exhibition is Taiwanese photographer Kawashima Kotori’s first solo show in Taiwan in 2018. All works on display were shot by Kawashima Kotori out of his deep affection for Tainan, capturing various aspects of life in the city through his lens. Kawashima believes the charm of Tainan lies within its land and air—the people living here, immersed in the energy and vibrancy unique to Tainan, in turn enrich the city with their presence, creating a positive cycle of atmosphere and vitality.

Through his uniquely affectionate gaze on Taiwan, he presents the “Love Tainan” exhibition at Anping Tree House, freezing fleeting moments of the city into timeless images. The exhibition runs from February 2 to May 2 at Anping Tree House, with the same opening hours as the park.
Tainan is a city that seamlessly blends traditional culture with youthful creativity, and this distinctive free-spirited atmosphere deeply charmed Kawashima. The content of this photography exhibition reflects the vibe and allure of Tainan as captured through his own lens. Paired with the magical ambiance and natural space of Anping Tree House, Kawashima’s photographic works are interspersed throughout the century-old, intertwined venue in fun and multifaceted ways. The coexistence of the photography exhibition and the tree house creates a harmonious and skillful balance where both elements complement each other.

Tainan is the most featured Taiwanese city in numerous Japanese travel books about Taiwan, second only to Greater Taipei. The enthusiasm of the Japanese for Tainan is also directly reflected in the intensity of city-to-city exchanges between the two. This world-renowned photographer is one of Tainan’s biggest fans. Kawashima Kotori spent considerable time in Taiwan, using his unique vision to document the daily life, ordinary people, animals, and street scenes of the island nation. Among them, Tainan captivated him the most. He feels that the people here seem to exude an ageless vitality that continuously nurtures and accumulates, and those who gather here are also infused with Tainan’s energy and liveliness. This gathered energy then returns to nourish the city, creating a positive cycle that gives the city its one-of-a-kind atmosphere, which deeply fascinated him.
This exhibition is inspired by the theme of “playful interactive daily life,” born from the photographer’s love for Tainan. His lens faithfully portrays the sweet, innocent, delicious, and playful local culture of Tainan. The exhibition combines Taiwanese park playground equipment presented in a fun horizontal bar-themed layout, with three themed zones: “Smile,” “Play,” and “Interaction.” A total of 272 works will be displayed in the century-old warehouse complex of Anping Tree House. Exclusive limited-edition postcards will also be available for collection on-site.

Additionally, Kawashima Kotori collaborated across disciplines with Lu Keran, a musical genius dubbed Tainan’s “national eldest grandson” and a Tainan native. Together they created the MV “Cell Phone (Part 1)”—a Kawashima photography + Japanese subtitle version—which continues to receive enthusiastic responses online. This exhibition offers a revisit, delivering the most authentic and Tainan-flavored audiovisual experience to visitors.
