Gaomei Wetlands will implement zoned management, requiring applications for entry.

The scenic Gaomei Wetlands have been the subject of ongoing controversy. On the 25th, the Taichung City Government Agriculture Bureau announced that the Gaomei Wildlife Conservation Area, as a nationally important wetland, will be divided into a core zone, a buffer zone, and a sustainable use zone in order to prevent human-caused damage. Only the sustainable use zone, which accounts for 20% of the total area, will be open to the public for activities such as research, photography, beach clean-ups, and ecological experiences, upon application.

The Gaomei Wildlife Conservation Area is located at the mouth of the Dajia River, covering a total area of 701 hectares, and boasts extremely rich ecological resources, including various fish, shellfish, crabs, birds, and plants, among which there are many rare and precious species. According to the "Regulations on the Control of the Gaomei Wildlife Conservation Area and Notes on Applying for Entry," visitors who violate the rules and enter without authorization may be fined between NT$50,000 and NT$250,000. Those involving protected wildlife species may face enhanced penalties.

The planned core zone (approximately 60%), buffer zone (approximately 20%), and sustainable use zone (approximately 20%) will be finalized and submitted to the Council of Agriculture for approval and implementation. Completion is expected by August, with the Gaomei Area Association assisting in patrolling the conservation area, advising visitors, and promoting correct ecological conservation concepts.
