Take a break when you’re tired from traveling. If you happen to pass by the Qialulan Recreation Area in Taitung at kilometer 157.7 on Provincial Highway 11, you might just fall in love with this seascape where sky and ocean blend seamlessly. Once an abandoned soil disposal site for the construction of the Air Force's Zhisheng Base Airport, Qialulan Recreation Area has been revitalized through eco-engineering methods. It has since become a hub for creative markets and music festivals.

Covering 3.2 hectares, the Qialulan Recreation Area boasts expansive lawns, rest pavilions, an interpretation station, and an observation deck, providing a comfortable space for people to get close to nature. Here, with the warm sun overhead, your feet on the soft grass, the sea breeze caressing your skin, and your eyes taking in the waves crashing against the Pacific and the undulating mountain ranges of the valley, the evening sky paints a stunning sunset. At night, with no light pollution, it’s the perfect spot for stargazing and moon appreciation.

Additionally, Qialulan is known for its open-air driftwood art exhibitions. Along the coast stand large artistic installations made from driftwood, showcasing the local talent for creating art using natural materials and reflecting a peaceful philosophy where artistic creation harmonizes with the natural environment.

The Qialulan Recreation Area is close to the Little Yehliu Scenic Area. You can plan a coastal tour from Little Yehliu to Dulan Bay and even Dulan Nose, admiring the unique rock formations. Combine this with other famous seaside attractions such as Fugang Fishing Port and Shan Yuan Bay for an unforgettable coastal journey, soaking in the stunning beauty of the azure sea and blue skies.
