Think grilled corn only comes in the soy sauce–flavored variety from night markets? Mexican grilled corn is a whole different story. Café Habana coats the corn with butter, mayonnaise, sour cream (Sour Cream), Mexican Cotija cheese, and a hint of chili powder before grilling. The result is rich, cheesy flavor paired with the natural sweetness of the corn. It can also be drizzled with lime juice to add a tangy-sweet twist, making it a must-order signature dish for nearly every customer. There are also Cuban and Mexican international dishes that are popular with both locals and travelers.

The richly flavored Mexican grilled corn is simply irresistible.

Café Habana is located in the bustling SoHo district, with its signature blue color being the most eye-catching feature. While prices are quite reasonable by local standards, the small space doesn’t take reservations, so long lines are common. However, almost everyone is there for the Mexican grilled corn—just look at how nearly every customer walks out with one to see its appeal. There’s also a selection of Cuban and Mexican dishes that are beloved by both locals and visitors.

Café Habana offers different menus for brunch and dinner, as well as a takeaway section.

The Cuban Sandwich is the dish that best reflects the restaurant’s name. It originated among Cuban laborers who moved to the U.S. and is made with Cuban bread, which has a texture similar to French bread. The bread, cut to about 10 cm in length, is spread with mustard and layered with tender, juicy grilled pork, smoked ham, and Swiss cheese. The highlight is the specially marinated pork, which is especially flavorful and memorable.

Additionally, Mexican soft tacos (Burrittos) and Skirt Steak are also popular menu items. Skirt Steak comes from the diaphragm area between the cow’s chest and belly, a cut with connective tissue. Though the muscle fibers are coarser, sufficient fat and marination result in tender, flavorful meat when grilled. This once lesser-used steak cut has gradually gained popularity in the U.S.

Popular Café Habana serves Cuban and Mexican-style dishes.
