Banyan Tree spends $900 million to build Phuket Angsana Resort

The Sheraton Phuket Laguna Resort officially ceased operations on June 30, 2011. Banyan Tree Group took back management of the property on July 1, 2011, and renamed it Laguna Phuket Angsana Resort. Starting from July 1, the hotel was closed for large-scale renovation and refurbishment, with an investment of approximately $30 million USD (about NT$900 million). Located within Asia’s first integrated resort, the Laguna Phuket Angsana Resort will feature 384 suites and villas. The opening date is scheduled for December 1, 2011, marking Banyan Tree Group’s fourth hotel operation in Thailand.

Regarding this project, Mr. Arthur Kiong, Banyan Tree Group’s Senior Vice President & Regional Managing Director for Asia, said: “Banyan Tree has been operating in Laguna Phuket for many years and has deep roots here, so we chose this location to set a new benchmark for the 15 future Angsana resorts to be launched globally.” The Laguna Phuket Angsana Resort is situated in Bang Tao Bay. In addition to a beach club, it will also introduce new elements such as a two-story treehouse concept children’s club, as well as rice-based dishes developed according to Asian tastes. Other facilities include Angsana Spa, Angsana Gallery boutique shop, multiple meeting rooms, and a banquet hall of about 358 square meters.

Mr. Michael Ayling, the Operational Director of Laguna Phuket Integrated Resort, also mentioned, “The Angsana Resort will continue to upgrade its facilities. For modern travelers who seek unique taste, authenticity, and vitality, the renovated Laguna Phuket Angsana Resort will become their top choice. These are guests who were not originally the target audience of the existing hotels and resorts, while also attracting more attention from younger demographics and group travelers, especially family visitors from emerging Asian countries.”
