Passenger transport services between Sun Moon Lake and Alishan now operational

Sun Moon Lake and Alishan are two of Taiwan’s most famous scenic areas. To explore both in a single journey, passengers can take the “Sun Moon Lake–Alishan” passenger route, which began operations on October 10. The bus departs daily from the Shuishe Visitor Center at Sun Moon Lake, traveling along Provincial Highway 21 toward Alishan, with stops including the Sun Moon Lake Xiangshan Administration Center, Xinyi Farmers’ Association, Heshè, and Tatachia. The journey takes approximately 180 minutes. Passengers may also transfer at the Heshè stop to the Yuanlin Bus “Sun Moon Lake–Dongpu” service to visit the Dongpu Hot Spring area.

The “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Sun Moon Lake Line” connects travelers from Taichung Railway Station and Taichung High-Speed Rail Station via National Freeway 6 directly to the Sun Moon Lake area. From there, passengers can transfer to either the “Sun Moon Lake–Dongpu” or “Sun Moon Lake–Alishan” bus routes to visit the Dongpu Hot Spring area and the Alishan region. They can then continue by transferring to the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Alishan Line” to reach Chiayi Railway Station and Chiayi High-Speed Rail Station, where they can take trains or high-speed rail north or south. This network links key attractions such as Sun Moon Lake, the Dongpu Hot Spring area, and Alishan into a seamless travel route.

The “Sun Moon Lake–Alishan” route now offers daily departures at 07:00 and 09:00 from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan. The 07:00 bus is scheduled to arrive at Tatachia at 09:30, with a 30-minute rest stop before continuing to Alishan. The 09:00 bus includes an additional rest stop at the Xinyi Farmers’ Association, where passengers holding valid bus tickets receive a 10% discount on purchases. Return trips from Alishan to Sun Moon Lake depart at 13:00 and 14:00.
