You can explore Hong Kong with just a mobile phone or an iPad without worrying about getting lost. The “Hong Kong AR Travel Guide” app developed by the Hong Kong Tourism Board utilizes Augmented Reality (AR) technology. By downloading this free app, tourists visiting Hong Kong can simply take a photo of their surroundings to easily identify their location—just like having a pedestrian-specific navigation system.

This “Hong Kong AR Travel Guide” app uses Augmented Reality technology to comprehensively cover all districts of Hong Kong, providing detailed information on over 100 attractions, 5,500 retail shops participating in the Quality Tourism Services scheme, 2,000 dining establishments, as well as shopping malls and open-air markets across the city. There is also the “Hong Kong City Walks” app, which offers four themed walking routes around the urban area, allowing you to savor both the historic and modern charm of Hong Kong.

Both apps can be pre-downloaded and browsed in Taiwan, but they are currently only available for iPhone and iPad users. After downloading, you can use your smartphone in Hong Kong to quickly access location information without needing internet access, eliminating concerns about extra international roaming fees—it’s like having a personal, round-the-clock tour guide for every traveler. During the Travel Expo, visitors to the Hong Kong Pavilion who show their downloaded “Hong Kong AR Travel Guide” app on their phones will receive a free USB flash drive. Limited quantities are available and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
