Win a BMW by raising a dragon egg during Taipei’s New Year countdown!

The Taipei City Government has launched the mobile app game “2012 Dragon’s Play,” which not only displays a New Year’s Eve countdown on your phone every day but also lets you raise your own virtual pet — a “dragon egg.” Feed it daily, and as the year 101 begins, a BMW car could be yours!

Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism Director-General Zhao Xinping said that Taipei offers free Wi-Fi in public areas. This year marks the first time an app for the New Year’s Eve party, “2012 Dragon’s Play,” has been designed, tying in with both the upcoming year 2012 and the Year of the Dragon. As users feed their dragon eggs, they will receive surprise e-coupons — including drinks, food, and daily necessities — with total prizes exceeding 10,000 vouchers and discount coupons. On New Year’s Eve, bring your phone to the countdown event for a chance to win the unprecedented grand prize in Taiwan’s New Year celebration history — a brand new BMW. As you welcome the New Year, look up at the fireworks over Taipei 101, then glance down at your phone, where your lucky dragon will hatch from its egg and deliver another surprise!

Starting now, the public can download “2012 Dragon’s Play” for free from the Android Market and iTunes Store. Each day, feed your dragon egg with information about Taipei’s attractions, food, and city policies to earn up to 3 points. On New Year’s Eve, bring your phone to the countdown venue and “check in” to earn a whopping 101 points. For every 50 points earned during gameplay, you get one chance to enter the BMW grand prize draw — and so on. The more points you have, the better your chances of winning.

Additionally, the “2012 Taipei’s Most Exciting New Year City” Facebook fan page has launched the “I’m the Countdown Superstar” campaign, where the public can choose photos of their favorite performers to create a personalized New Year’s Eve poster. Participants in the “I’m the Countdown Superstar” campaign may win a Countdown VIP ticket (1 winner, 2 tickets), allowing them to enjoy the spectacular New Year’s Eve performance and Taipei 101 fireworks show from the best seats in the house.
