Europe’s First Underwater Museum at 12 Meters Deep — You Need to Learn Diving to Visit

Europe’s first underwater sculpture museum has officially opened, featuring 300 life-size sculptures on display in the North Atlantic Ocean. Visitors not only need to buy a ticket but also must learn how to dive first — isn’t that cool!?

Created by installation artist Jason deCaires Taylor, the project took nearly three years to complete.

The statues are installed on the seabed 12 meters below sea level, meaning visitors must dive to reach them. Made from pH-neutral materials, the sculptures are designed as artificial coral reefs, providing a habitat for fish and marine life. These installations are not just artworks — they aim to raise environmental awareness and highlight the value of ocean ecosystems.In the past, Jason deCaires Taylor has undertaken similar projects. His first underwater sculpture park, located in the West Indies, was even selected by National Geographic as one of the “25 Wonders of the World.”
