To promote nationwide reading culture, this year’s special “High-Speed Rail Reading Train” has been arranged, inviting 130 teachers and students from elementary schools in remote areas of Pingtung to visit the “Taipei International Book Exhibition” by taking the high-speed rail on February 2. The spokesperson for this edition of the book fair—singer Lu Guangzhong—will even read the classic literary work The Old Man and the Sea aloud on the train for the schoolchildren, sharing the joy and inspiration of reading.

In addition, from February 1 to 6, 2012, during the Taipei International Book Fair, passengers holding same-day ticket stubs for high-speed rail stations south of Taoyuan (with either the starting or ending station being Taipei Station) can exchange for a free same-day entry ticket at the book fair service desk. This allows free access to Halls 1, 2, and 3 of the book fair. Travelers are welcome to take the high-speed rail and enjoy this cultural feast.
Taiwan High Speed Rail stated that since the launch of the “Take the High-Speed Rail, Visit the Book Fair for Free” campaign in 2009, over 26,000 high-speed rail passengers have enjoyed free admission to the Taipei International Book Fair over the past three years. Taiwan High Speed Rail supports cultural events through concrete actions and actively participates in public welfare initiatives for underprivileged communities. This year, it has launched the “High-Speed Rail Reading Train” for the first time, sponsoring teachers and students from Jiayi Elementary School and Nanhua Elementary School in Pingtung to visit the book fair in Taipei. This gives children from remote areas the chance to experience the speed and comfort of the high-speed rail while also enjoying the wonderful world of reading.
