The launch of the Nikon D800 ushers in an ultra-high pixel battle

After previously launching its professional flagship camera, the D4, Nikon has now released the D800/D800E, which feature the world’s highest pixel count in the FX full-frame 135mm format. The Nikon D800 and D4 provide professional imaging professionals with better equipment options. In addition to FULL HD video recording, they come equipped with stereo microphone and headphone jacks, and are compatible with Nikkor lenses. Taiwan will begin official sales on March 22 in sync with the global launch. The D800 is priced at NT$94,900, while the D800E is priced at NT$103,900.

The Nikon D800 is equipped with a newly developed FX-format CMOS image sensor, whose core value lies in delivering image quality comparable to that of medium-format cameras. Despite its compact body and fast, convenient operation, this high-pixel sensor can still record FULL HD 1920x1080@30p video. Coupled with high-sensitivity image processing, it also maintains image clarity when shooting at night.

The Nikon D800 features a brand-new third-generation image processing engine, EXPEED 3, along with a next-generation 91,000-pixel RGB metering sensor and autofocus module, offering a user experience unlike any before. It can achieve easy autofocus even in dimly lit environments, and with the viewfinder, the camera can automatically detect faces for autofocus. In the past, using telephoto lenses with converters often meant losing autofocus capability, but the new autofocus module in the D800 and D4 allows for autofocus at up to 11 points even when using telephoto lenses and converters at maximum aperture F/8—a feature that will be extremely convenient for wildlife and nature photographers.
