Starting March 1, TransAsia Airways operates daily flights between Makung and Kinmen

Recognizing the potential of outlying island tourism and aiming to capture the independent travel market from mainland China, TransAsia Airways will offer one daily round-trip flight on the Makung–Kinmen route starting March 1. The flight departs Makung at 11:40 a.m. and Kinmen at 12:50 p.m., with a 40-minute flight time that brings the two islands closer together.

According to transportation statistics published by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for 2011, domestic routes have seen consecutive annual growth over the past two years, with outlying island routes becoming a key focus. The Taipei–Kinmen and Taipei–Makung routes are among the busiest, accounting for 40% of domestic air traffic.

Since July last year, when TransAsia Airways converted the Makung–Kinmen route to a regular scheduled service, the average passenger load factor has reached 70%, peaking at 85% during the summer high season. The ratio of group to individual travelers is approximately 7:3, with mainland tour groups accounting for over 50%. TransAsia Airways noted that with the upcoming expansion of the independent travel pilot cities program for mainland tourists, visitor numbers to Taiwan are expected to rise. The Makung–Kinmen route will better facilitate travel itinerary planning and help promote dual-city tourism between the two outlying islands.

TransAsia Airways currently operates 488 weekly domestic flights, including exclusive services such as Taipei–Hualien, Taichung–Hualien, and the Makung–Kinmen route.
