Registration for the 8th Vibrant Sun Moon Lake Merida Cycling Tour Now Open

The “2012 Vibrant Sun Moon Lake Merida Cycling Tour” will take place on April 29 (Sunday) at the Sun Moon Lake Shiangshan Visitor Center. The event features three cycling routes: a 9-kilometer family leisure ride, a 30-kilometer lake loop experience, and a 60-kilometer self-challenge route, with a participant limit of 4,000 people. Registration is open now until the end of March on the Merida Bicycle website.

This is the 8th year that the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area Administration and Merida Bicycle have jointly organized this cycling event. This year’s event is quite different from previous years. In addition to the traditional “Family Leisure Cycling Ride” and “Lake Loop Experience Route” along the lakeside, a special 60-kilometer “Self-Challenge Route” has been designed. This route connects scenic spots in the Sun Moon Lake area, Shuili, Checheng, and Toushe, including the lake loop and County Highway 131. It allows cyclists to challenge their physical limits while taking in sights such as the Checheng Wooden Horse Trail, Mingtan Reservoir, and Shuili Snake Kiln, and experiencing the tranquil rural countryside.

Additionally, cyclists who register for the “Lake Loop Experience Route” and “Self-Challenge Route” can enjoy a nationally unique service featuring RFID chip timing, automatic photo-taking at the finish line, and instant issuance of a “Ride Completion Certificate.” The certificate will record departure and arrival times, serving as a lasting memento of the event.

Furthermore, on April 29, the day of the cycling event, also marks the official opening of the “Eternal Bond” and “Hearts United Bridge” sections of the Sun Moon Lake Bikeway in the Shiangshan area. Organizers are especially inviting five couples who have been married for less than six months or are about to get married to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the “Eternal Bond” and “Hearts United Bridge,” riding bicycles together to symbolize eternal love and unity.
