The Ministry of Foreign Affairs protests Japan's naming of unnamed islands in China's Diaoyu Islands

The website of Japan's Cabinet Office "Headquarters for Ocean Policy" released the latest news yesterday (March 2), stating that the Japanese government has announced the names of 39 remote islands serving as base points for its exclusive economic zone. Among them, four unnamed islets and reefs belonging to Taiwan's Diaoyu Islands were unilaterally named by the headquarters as "Northwest Islet," "North Islet," "Northeast Islet" of Kuba Island (i.e., China's Huangwei Islet), and "North Islet" of Taisho Island (our Chiwei Islet).

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Taiwan’s Representative to Japan, Feng Chi-tai, had already lodged a solemn protest with the Chairman of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Aoki Daisaku, yesterday, reiterating the Taiwanese government’s consistent stance on sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands, and urged Japan to exercise restraint to avoid damaging Taiwan-Japan relations.
