Taichung’s “Meet The Sound of Music” Concert on April 14 Faithfully Revives Original Film Soundtrack

The globally beloved classic film *The Sound of Music*, with its iconic songs translated into numerous languages and sung around the world, will be presented in what is billed as Taiwan’s most authentic recreation of the original film soundtrack at the “Meet The Sound of Music” concert at 19:00 on April 14 at Taichung’s Yuanman Outdoor Theater.

Chunghwa Telecom and the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau have jointly invited conductor Chiang Ching-po to lead the Symphonic Band When Music Lives, together with top local soprano Yee-Chia Chan, to perform the classic songs from *The Sound of Music* exactly as they were in the film.阮淑祥, head of public affairs at Chunghwa Telecom, said that obtaining the rights to the original *Sound of Music* film music was an extremely challenging process, with application restrictions so strict they are rare in Taiwan. Not only must the performance adhere strictly to the original scores without any alterations, but the number of purely instrumental pieces from the full musical is also limited to just four. This means the concert will offer the most complete and officially authorized version of the film’s music ever staged in Taiwan.

The concert has also gathered children from across Taiwan who know how to sing “Do-Re-Mi,” inviting them to join the joyful singing journey of *The Sound of Music*. Notably, the concert will also feature a special performance by the Alishan Youth Choir during the intermission, singing songs of the Tsou tribe. These children were directly affected by the devastating Typhoon Morakot, which destroyed their homes. Now, through music, they are rebuilding their spirits and singing of love and hope for the land they call home.

The *Sound of Music*, which premiered on Broadway in 1959, won six Tony Awards and became a global sensation after being adapted into a film in 1964. It won five Academy Awards and became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Legendary actor Christopher Plummer, who played the iconic role of Captain von Trapp and left a lasting impression on audiences, recently won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 82. The international acclaim and enduring popularity of the musical have added tremendous anticipation to this spring’s concert.
