A 4D theater brings history to life with animated special effects at the Confucius Temple

Starting today, Taipei Confucius Temple has transformed the Minglun Hall into a brand-new 4D special effects cinema, featuring two 4D films—“Confucius” and “Taipei Confucius Temple”—for regular screenings. The so-called 4D adds various environmental effects such as wind, flashes, smoke, and vibrations on top of 3D stereoscopic movies to create a more immersive “4D” simulated environment.

The 4D theater will screen a total of two 3D films, each approximately 15 minutes long. In the film “Taipei Confucius Temple,” Confucius’s 79th-generation direct descendant and Sacrificial Official Kung Chui-chang is specially invited to introduce the historical background of the temple. The content is divided into four chapters: Crossing the Sea to Taiwan, Initial Construction of the Confucius Temple, Striving for Restoration, and Eternal Legacy. The film incorporates a magical theater atmosphere and special effects animation to present the temple’s treasured historical footage, showcasing the beauty of the Confucius Temple architecture through 3D live-action shots from perspectives normally unseen by visitors.

The other film, “Confucius,” uses puppetry to depict the life of Confucius, including the Meeting at Jiagu, his political frustrations, his travels across various states, and his ultimate influence on later generations. The film features stunning special effects such as the flames of war drums and the clashing of swords and blades to portray the chaotic era in which Confucius lived. It also includes the famous passage from the Analects, “Why not each speak your aspirations?”, where Confucius and his disciples sit on the ground discussing their ideals. With serene and beautiful visuals, it conveys the Confucian spirit of “putting people first.” The trial operation period runs for 17 days starting March 22, with screenings every Tuesday to Friday at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. Each session alternates between “Taipei Confucius Temple” and “Confucius.”
