Experience the Songkran Festival Carnival in Taichung Without Going to Thailand

You don’t have to travel all the way to Thailand to join the Songkran Festival anymore. The Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau will host a Southeast Asian festival cultural (Songkran) event at Taichung Park on Sunday, April 15th at 10:00 AM, giving foreign migrant workers and local residents the chance to share the joy of the festival together.

Currently, there are about 58,000 foreign migrant workers in Taichung, coming from countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia. With the Songkran carnival season kicking off across Thailand, the Taichung City Government Labor Affairs Bureau will also hold a Southeast Asian Festival Cultural (Songkran) event at Taichung Park to help ease the homesickness of these foreign workers.

On the day of the event, in addition to fun water-splashing games that match the festive spirit, there will also be the “1st Taichung Yi Guo Starlight Helper” talent competition, where foreign workers can showcase their singing talents and display various skills. The site will also feature food stalls offering traditional international cuisine, DIY bamboo toys for children, cultural-themed challenge games—with the first 3,000 participants receiving NT$50 food vouchers—and lucky draws for prizes such as iPads. Local residents can experience unique elements of foreign traditional culture without traveling abroad.
