Explore Sun Moon Lake’s Eco Adventure by Bike & Firefly Magic

Listed among the world’s top ten most beautiful bike paths, the “Sun Moon Lake Scenic Loop” attracts numerous cycling enthusiasts. From now until April 28, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration is launching the “Sun Moon Lake Cycling Joyful Tour” event. Simply cycle around the lake and check in on Facebook or upload a photo to receive a Sun Moon Lake map and magic scarf. Additionally, from April 15 to May 6, every evening at 7 PM, there is also a “Firefly Ecological Tour,” allowing visitors to enjoy both a lake cycling loop and firefly viewing in one trip.

The “Sun Moon Lake Cycling Joyful Tour” event is divided into two participation options: Check-in participants and Selfie participants. Visitors can choose either. Simply check in along the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Loop or any connected bike path, accompanied by a photo of you cycling, or take a digital photo while cycling around the lake. Then, present your check-in record or uploaded photo at the Shuishe or Xiangshan Visitor Centers, and join the “Rediscover. Dynamic Sun Moon Lake” Facebook fan page to redeem one “Sun Moon Lake Map & Magic Scarf.”

Moreover, the “Firefly Ecological Tour” runs from April 15 to May 6, departing every evening at 7 PM. The firefly viewing routes include the Shuishe Visitor Center, Ita Thao, and Tanan areas. Shuishe Visitor Center and Ita Thao have 40 spots available per session daily, while the Tanan area only accepts holiday bookings with a daily limit of 20 people. Registration is open on the Administration’s website from now until May 6, with daily registration closing one day before the scheduled tour. Professional ecological guides will lead participants to explore the magical firefly habitats.

In recent years, cycling tourism has become a popular trend. The bicycle paths within the Sun Moon Lake area currently include the “Shuishe & Xiangshan Bike Path,” “Yue Lake Bike Path,” and “Toucha Bike Path,” totaling nearly 10 kilometers in length. All are built along natural landscapes, attracting many visitors to bike and sightsee. Bicycle rental services around Sun Moon Lake have also significantly increased. In the future, the Administration will continue to develop and upgrade the bike paths in the area, aiming for separate lanes for “two-wheelers and four-wheelers,” completing the entire scenic loop progressively over the years.
