The Miaoli Hakka Cultural Park to Make Its Debut on May 12

Miaoli has another new Hakka cultural park. On May 12, the new “Miaoli Hakka Cultural Park” will officially open at the Tongluo Science Park in Miaoli. In the future, besides featuring a permanent exhibition on Hakka history and culture, it will also regularly host special exhibitions on various themes, serving as a global hub for Hakka cultural research and industrial exchange.

Covering an area of 11.2 hectares, the “Miaoli Hakka Cultural Park” is designed according to the terrain. Its unique glass curtain wall exterior blends harmoniously with the landform. Huang Yu-cheng, Chairman of the Council for Hakka Affairs, especially recommends the “Half-Moon Pond” located behind the main building—a distinctive feature of traditional Hakka architecture—where visitors can also enjoy the beautiful view of the Hakka village settlements at the foot of the mountain.

The “Miaoli Hakka Cultural Park” is designed based on the rolling terrain of the hilly site. It includes outdoor spaces, the main exhibition hall area, and auxiliary facilities. Artificial hills made of water and green landscaping elements wrap around the main structure, creating the imagery of terraced fields. The elevated walkway from the park entrance leads to the second-floor permanent exhibition area, where exhibits document the moving stories of Taiwanese Hakka immigrants. The first floor features a multimedia interactive exhibition area. In addition, the special exhibition area is planned around different elements of Hakka charm, including spaces such as the Taiwan Pavilion, Global Pavilion, Children’s Pavilion, Cultural and Creative Industries Pavilion, and the Camphor Industry Pavilion, reflecting the profound meaning of inheriting and innovating Hakka culture.

Additionally, the outdoor stepped plaza and main stage area will host various art and cultural performances, including Hakka music and group shows, bringing audiences closer to Hakka culture. On the opening day, in addition to captivating performances by the Hui Feng Dance Troupe, the Miaoli Choir, and Golden Melody Award-winning singer Tang Yunhuan (Dongdong), a thousand members of the public are also invited to join in making Hakka rice cakes (mochi-like treats) and participate in other activities.
