Sunset Beauty Captured in Penghu’s Wang’an Photography Exhibition

Ranked as the fourth largest island in Penghu, Wang’an is home not only to the turtle-shaped Green Sea Turtle Conservation and Tourism Center but also boasts captivating natural scenery that has earned it the nickname “Honeymoon Island.” Among its many attractions, the ever-changing coastal views at sunset are particularly renowned. To showcase the beauty of Wang’an, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is hosting an exhibition of 20 sunset photographs from now until April 30, 2013, at the Green Sea Turtle Conservation and Tourism Center in Wang’an. This allows visitors to appreciate the island’s stunning sunsets at any time of day.

Wang’an Township is located in the southern part of the Penghu Archipelago and consists of 18 islands, with only Wang’an Island being inhabited. The photographers participating in this “Wang Xi” (Wang’an Sunset) exhibition are all teachers from Wang’an Elementary School. Using photography techniques such as slow shutter speeds and card dodging, they capture the varying color temperatures of the setting sun, complemented by coastal rocks, algae, and waves, to present the diverse and dynamic sunset scenes along Wang’an’s shores.

Wang’an boasts a rich combination of natural and cultural features including beaches, ecology, traditional houses, and geology. From its southeast to southwest areas, the white sandy beaches offer picturesque scenery, making them perfect spots for beach activities and a popular destination for tourists seeking to watch the summer sunsets. The Huazhai Settlement in Zhongshe Village, characterized by its black stones, lime mortar, and traditional architecture, not only preserves the area’s authentic historical charm but is also recognized as one of the “Top 100 Historic Villages in the World” and a “Taiwan Cultural Asset Rescue Base.” Meanwhile, the Green Sea Turtle Conservation and Tourism Center near Guoye Reef features streamlined architecture and comprehensive green sea turtle conservation exhibits, making it a key landmark in Wang’an’s ecological preservation efforts.
