Weekend Forest Wellness: Breathe Deep at Huisun

Located in Nantou, Huisun Forest Farm is a forest close to urban dwellers. The park features trails such as the Songfeng Mountain Trail, Azalea Ridge Trail, Frog Stone Trail, Wading Trail, Mountain Mist Path, and Forest Bathing Trail. Each pristine trail showcases its own charm, whether enveloped in mist, showcasing rare peach blossoms, or alive with birdsong. Especially popular among children is the Wading Trail, where visitors can tread on gentle streams and breathe in the precious phytoncides, immersing their mind, body, and soul in the forest.

The rare Formosan Blue Magpie, once thought hard to spot, surprisingly made frequent appearances at Huisun Forest Farm. Early in the morning, visitors reported seeing 5–6 blue magpies foraging near the papaya trees by the accommodation area. Just as everyone was marveling at the sight, another group shared that they had also spotted them near their wooden cabins. Throughout the year, the forest farm is home to various rare bird species, including the Taiwan Blue Magpie, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Taiwan Barwing, Ferruginous Pygmy Owl, and Taiwan Hwamei. No wonder many wildlife photographers, armed with their “big guns,” flock here to capture these avian wonders.
