High-Speed Rail Summer Speed Camp Registration Closes on June 8

Sitting in the driver’s cab of a high-speed train and experiencing the thrill of speeds nearing 300 km/h is surely a dream for many both young and old. Taiwan High Speed Rail is soon to launch a two-day, one-night “2012 Taiwan High Speed Rail Camp” starting July 3. The camp is divided into four groups targeting upper elementary school students, middle school, vocational high school and senior high school, and university students—each group having two sessions for a total of eight. In addition to sessions where railway experts share knowledge about high-speed rail, participants will also get to tour the maintenance and control centers, and even have the chance to experience the thrill of high-speed travel in a simulator cockpit. Registration is now open, with 30 confirmed spots and 10 standby spots per session. The fee is NT$1,000 per person.

The 2012 Taiwan High Speed Rail Camp will feature maintenance staff, control center operators, service personnel, and other rail experts sharing practical experiences and railway knowledge with participants. Moreover, campers will have the chance to ride the high-speed rail and visit usually off-limits maintenance bases and control centers to see firsthand how trains are scheduled and maintained. They’ll also get to experience the excitement of driving a high-speed train through realistic simulations in the driver’s cab model.

Registration is open from now until June 8. The schedule for each group is as follows: July 3–4 and July 10–11 (middle school group), July 17–18 and July 24–25 (upper elementary school group), July 31–August 1 and August 7–8 (vocational and senior high school group), and August 14–15 and August 21–22 (university group). Each session has 30 confirmed spots and 10 standby spots. Taiwan High Speed Rail will conduct an online lottery draw on the 11th, with admission results announced at 10:00 AM on the 12th on their official website. Registration site: www.thsrc.com.tw.
