German Contemporary Metalwork Showcases Nearly 500 Pieces at Gold Museum

The Gold Museum will host the "New Taipei City 2012 German Contemporary Metalwork Exhibition" from June 29 to September 2, showcasing nearly 500 of the finest contemporary German metalwork art pieces. The exhibit features several iconic works that have shaped the contemporary metalwork scene, including pieces by Becker, Friedrich, who introduced mechanical movement into artistic creation; Weiss-Weingart, Ebbe, a pioneer in using electroforming to achieve rough textures; and Bury, Claus, known for intricately combining different metals to create patterned designs.

The Gold Museum's exhibition features nearly 500 items, including collections from Germany’s renowned "Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim (Pforzheim Jewelry Museum)" and works created by faculty and students of two prestigious metalwork institutions. The "Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim" is the world’s only museum dedicated entirely to jewelry, leading globally in both collection and expertise in jewelry and metalwork. Lin Chien-chi, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, stated that under the planning of curators Ruan Wenmeng and Ms. Cornelie Holzach, Director of the German Jewelry Museum, the quality and quantity of exhibits are expected to be unprecedented in similar exhibitions in Taiwan, holding significant representative value in the field of metal craftsmanship.

The "Pforzheim Jewelry Museum" in Germany is located in Pforzheim, a city in southern Germany known since the 19th century as a famous hub for jewelry and gold. It boasts a 300-year history of jewelry and watchmaking. The "Pforzheim University’s Faculty of Design" is Germany’s foremost institution for metalwork education and has been ranked among the world’s top 60 design schools. Another institution, the "Pforzheim School of Goldsmithing and Watchmaking," is a globally recognized specialized school for jewelry engraving and the design of jewelry and watch instruments.
