Super adorable alpacas arrive at Leofoo Village – come meet Alpaca Bro and Alpaca Sis

Where to go during summer vacation? Getting close to animals is a great option for many family activities. This summer, Leofoo Village Theme Park in Guanxi, Hsinchu, invested NT$5 million to import 8 alpacas, commonly known as “grass mud horses,” from New Zealand. Last week, 6 of them completed their quarantine and made their first public appearance, drawing exclamations of “So cute!” from visitors who saw their adorable, chubby looks. The park also launched the “Find Alpaca Bro and Alpaca Sis” campaign. Visitors can upload their own cute alpaca impersonation expressions to Leofoo Village’s official fan page for a vote, with a chance to win an annual Leofoo Village passport.

As summer vacation begins, theme parks are pulling out all the stops to attract visitors. Leofoo Village Theme Park has specially imported the wildly popular animal star – the “alpaca.” Part of the camelid family, alpacas have a look that’s a mix between a camel and a sheep, covered in thick wool like a sheep. Especially endearing are their chubby, adorable expressions, which have earned them the playful nickname “grass mud horse.”

Wang Yung-hao, marketing and PR manager at Leofoo Village, said that alpacas belong to the even-toed ungulate order, camelid family, and typically live in cooler highland areas, with about 90% residing in the highlands of Peru and Chile in South America, and the rest distributed in Australia and New Zealand. This time, the park imported the alpacas from New Zealand, but unfortunately encountered the recent period of extreme heat. Therefore, during the two-week quarantine period before their debut, the park took special care of them. In addition to feeding them 3.5 kilograms daily of specially prepared feed that includes high-protein feed, hay, alfalfa blocks, and green pasture, the “grass mud horses” were also kept indoors with air conditioning, and occasionally sprayed with water to cool down, helping them adapt to Taiwan’s high temperatures.
