HowToTrip’s Series of Events on TAIHWA Ferry: Cruise to Penghu & Win Prizes for Sharing Photos

Summer is the liveliest season in Penghu, and flying is the transportation method chosen by most people. To alleviate the difficulty of securing flight tickets during the peak travel season to Penghu and promote diverse modes of transport to the island, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration has launched the “Cruise to Penghu by Ferry. Share Your Photo, Get a Souvenir” campaign. Starting today (the 20th), anyone who takes the TAIHWA Ferry and takes a photo with the human-shaped cutout on board, or shares their ferry experience on the administration’s Facebook page, will receive a souvenir. Additionally, those who post photos related to the TAI-PAO Ferry (for which they hold usage rights) on the administration’s Facebook will also be rewarded with a souvenir.

In the early days, travel between Taiwan and Penghu was largely dependent on ferry services due to limited flight schedules and airport constraints. From the original “PENGHU Ferry,” to the “TAI-PAO Ferry” of the 1950s and 60s, to today’s “TAIHWA Ferry,” large ferries between Taiwan and Penghu have gone through three stages of evolution. Nowadays, flights have become the preferred choice for many tourists traveling to and from the “Island of Chrysanthemums,” leading to sold-out tickets during peak seasons. To ease the ticket shortage, this year the scenic area administration has partnered with the TAIHWA Ferry to launch the “Blue Penghu, Heartfelt Cruising” series of events.

The “Cruise to Penghu by Ferry. Share Your Photo, Get a Souvenir” campaign runs from the 20th to September 30th. Passengers who take the TAIHWA Ferry or possess photos related to the TAI-PAO Ferry can join the administration’s Facebook fan page. By posting either a photo taken with the ferry’s human-shaped cutout or a short piece (around 200 words) sharing their TAIHWA Ferry experience, participants can receive a deck of playing cards or a pad of sticky notes. Posting photos related to the TAI-PAO Ferry (for which they hold usage rights) will also qualify for a souvenir.

Moreover, the “Peng Blue Heartbeat” creative ferry activity submissions are still ongoing. Before August 31st and September 30th respectively, visitors who take the TAIHWA Ferry and come up with creative ideas—submitting photo-and-text suggestions for new ways to enjoy the trip via the official website, or producing mini-films or visual articles based on lesser-known travel themes in Penghu—stand a chance to win cash prizes ranging from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000.
