Lakeside Music and Fireworks Show – Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Carnival Debuts in October

The annual “Sun Moon Lake International Fireworks & Music Carnival” series will be held from October 10 to November 10, during National Day and five consecutive weekends, featuring a total of 5 major fireworks concerts and 4 smaller concerts. The special National Day event on October 10 will include a Sacred Mountain Challenge in the morning for marathon runners from various regions, a health walk up Shuishe Dashan Mountain for visitors in the afternoon, and an evening concert starring A-Lin, Wei Bird, Yoga Lin, and the band Wan-Fu, accompanied by a fireworks display — offering a full day of diverse charms at Sun Moon Lake. All carnival concerts are free to attend, and registration for the Shuishe Dashan health walk is expected to open in mid-August.

This year’s Fireworks Music Carnival will officially kick off on October 13 at Ita Thao Pier. The opening performance will be led by guest conductor Douglas Bostock with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Wind Ensemble, presenting the theme “Prayer of the Firmament” featuring selected wind works from the UK, Japan, and the US. Among them, “Prayer of the Firmament” composed by Koji Makaino was written after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan and will be performed for the first time in Taiwan. On October 20, the “Taiwan Mobile Fireworks Concert: Les Misérables – Rising from Adversity” will be held at the Shuishe Zhongxing Parking Lot, conducted by Jiang Jingbo with the Musica Viva Orchestra, performing popular songs from the beloved musical “Les Misérables” such as “One Day More” and “On My Own,” along with classical symphonies by Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky, allowing visitors to enjoy the classic musical amid the lake views and dazzling fireworks.

On October 26, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the NTSO Festival Chorus, in line with the 2012/2013 NTSO New Season theme “Love and Death,” will present “The Blessed Damosel” by the lakeside of Sun Moon Lake. On November 3, at the Xiangshan Visitor Center, the “Lakeside Pilgrimage Duo Piano Concert – Autumn Waters Merge with the Boundless Sky” will combine landscape architecture with piano duets and light projections, offering attendees a unique lakeside night experience. Throughout the carnival period, various supporting events will also be held around the Sun Moon Lake area, including a group wedding in Nantou County on October 12, the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Culture Season – Sun Moon Black Tea Gathering on October 13, and the Craft Tea Flavor Tea Ceremony as part of the Love Dye Crafts – 2012 Taiwan Crafts Festival on November 4.
