A fireworks show featuring the world-renowned Tony Award-winning musical "Les Misérables" returns to Sun Moon Lake

The upcoming series of performances at the "2012 Sun Moon Lake International Fireworks Music Carnival," which will debut at Ita Thao Pier on October 13,performanceswill include the "Les Misérables—Rising from Adversity" concert on October 20. Conducted by Jiang Jingbo of the L’Ensemble Orchestra, the event will feature coloratura soprano Huang Xuanwen and tenor Wang Dian performing five Tony Award-winning songs from the musical "Les Misérables," including "One Day More" and "On My Own." The performance will be combined with a grand fireworks display, offering a unique classical music experience where classic musical numbers meet the spectacle of fireworks.

The October 20 concert brings the globally renowned musical "Les Misérables," which has been performed over 10,000 times in London and more than 7,000 times on Broadway and has won multiple awards including the Tony Awards, to Taiwan. The program will also include Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique," conveying redemption amid despair; "La forza del destino" and "Lucia di Lammermoor," which break free from the whirlpool of fate; "La Traviata," which portrays undying love amidst a tragic life; and Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite," ultimately pointing to the idea that only through fire can one be reborn.

The story of "Les Misérables" depicts the harsh lives of the poor in that era. The protagonist steals bread out of kindness, ends up in prison, and after being released, tries to live a reformed life but faces discrimination and oppression everywhere. Forced to change his name and start anew, he continues to do good deeds but is relentlessly pursued by a police officer who represents law and justice. The entire play conveys the importance of doing good and forgiveness, even in the face of adversity and poverty.

In addition, Lion Travel has planned a one-day group tour to Sun Moon Lake specifically for the October 20 concert, limited to 200 people. The cost per person is NT$1,099, and if four people sign up, the fourth person enjoys a discounted rate of NT$520, along with a specially reserved seat for the concert. Taiwan Mobile users can enjoy an additional NT$100 discount on registration. Detailed registration information will be announced on October 19 on the websites of the Taiwan Mobile Foundation and Lion Travel.
