Nordic Hero Magic Show Brings Retro Anime Craze to Chiayi

"Vicky the Viking" is a well-known cartoon from the 1960s and 1970s for many Taiwanese who were children at the time. After its TV rerun this year, it garnered impressive viewership ratings. Capitalizing on this trend, a Chiayi department store has created Taiwan’s first Vicky the Viking-themed elevator, and will also host the world’s first "Vicky the Viking"-themed magic show on September 22 (Saturday) and 23 (Sunday), bringing the cartoon heroes to life in the real world!

Movies like "Batman" and "Spider-Man" are the superheroes of this generation, but "Vicky the Viking," which first aired in 1978, featured young Vicky who, despite his age, possessed bravery and wit beyond that of adults, solving numerous maritime crises and becoming a hero to children of the time. The show's repeated TV broadcasts over the years consistently achieved strong ratings. In July this year, a cable channel re-aired the series again, drawing high viewership. To keep the momentum going, Naisu Songshan Department Store in Chiayi will hold a Vicky the Viking magic show this Saturday and Sunday, combining magic acts with cartoon character appearances for a dazzling and thrilling performance. It is expected to attract parents from the 1960s–70s generation to bring their kids to this rare and memorable event.
